Understand Gold Prices
How gold prices are determined

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the gold spot price?
The spot price is the current market price for immediate delivery of one troy ounce of pure (24K) gold, quoted in US dollars. Gold Updates shows this international benchmark and converts it into other currencies and units.
Are these the prices a jeweller will charge?
No. Jeweller prices add making charges, premiums, taxes and dealer margins, and they vary by shop and city. Our figures are international spot equivalents — a reference for comparison, not a shop price.
What is the difference between spot and futures prices?
Spot is for immediate delivery; futures are contracts for delivery at a later date. Our history charts use COMEX gold futures (GC=F) daily closes because free spot history is not available from our sources. Charts are always labelled as futures.
How often are prices updated?
The spot quote is cached for up to five minutes; exchange rates refresh daily. If a feed is temporarily unreachable, we show the last available quote and mark it clearly as stale — we never invent a price.
How is the price per gram or tola calculated?
One troy ounce equals 31.1034768 grams and one tola equals 11.6638038 grams. We divide the per-ounce price by 31.1034768 for grams, then multiply for kilograms and tolas. Purity uses karat divided by 24, applied once.
Can I rely on these prices to buy or sell gold?
Use them as a reference only. Always confirm the final price with a licensed local dealer before buying or selling. Gold Updates provides information, not investment advice.
