Methodology and range honesty
- Series: COMEX gold futures (GC=F) daily closes, via the Gold Updates history endpoint. This is futures data, not spot.
- Range mapping: 1D and 3D both show the last 5 trading days (the shortest available window); 60D shows the last 3 months (the closest available window); 2Y is filtered from the 5-year series; 10Y, 15Y, 20Y and MAX use the maximum-history series, whose points are monthly-spaced (about 10 per year), not daily.
- Disabled / not offered: the endpoint’s direct 1-day range returns zero points, so it is never requested directly; direct 2-year and 10-year endpoint requests fall back to 1 month on the endpoint, so they are never requested directly either. 30-year and 43-year ranges are not offered because this futures history starts around 2000 — MAX covers about 25 years and is labelled “maximum available history”.
- Currency conversion: when a non-USD currency is selected, the whole historical series is converted at today’s exchange rate. Historical FX movement is not reflected, and the chart says so.
- Units: 1 troy ounce = 31.1034768 g; 1 kilogram = 1000 g; 1 tola = 11.6638038 g.
