Gold Price in China
This page shows gold prices in China converted from the international spot price at market exchange rates. It is an indicative reference only, not a price quoted by a Chinese jeweller, bank or dealer. Retail prices can differ because of workmanship, taxes, premiums and dealer margins.
In China, gold is most commonly priced per gram, for both jewellery and investment products.

Gold in China: currency, quoting and coins
Market context
Gold buyers in China trade in the same international market as buyers everywhere else: there is no separate local spot price. What differs locally is the currency, taxes, premiums and shop charges — the metal itself is priced from the one international benchmark, converted here into CNY.
Currency
The currency is the Chinese yuan (renminbi) (CNY), divided into 10 jiao, each of 10 fen. Prices on this page are the international spot price converted at the current market exchange rate for CNY; the conversion rate, not a local dealer board, is what moves the figures here when exchange rates move.
How gold is quoted locally
The international benchmark is quoted per troy ounce in US dollars. Local shops in China most commonly quote by the gram for jewellery and small bars; the per-ounce, per-gram and per-kilo figures above are all the same converted price, only the unit changes.
National coin
The best-known national bullion coin is the Chinese Gold Panda: a 99.9% pure gold coin issued since 1982, with a design that changes each year. Coin prices in shops still follow weight and purity first; a design premium, where a dealer charges one, sits on top of the metal value.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is a shop price in China different from this page?
Shops add workmanship, branding, operating costs, taxes where applicable and a margin, while this page reflects only the converted spot-price equivalent.
What moves the gold price in Chinese yuan?
The yuan figure follows the international gold price and the exchange rate used for conversion, so it changes as global markets move.
Is investment gold priced differently from jewellery?
Yes, investment bars and coins are usually priced closer to the metal value, while jewellery carries extra design and workmanship costs.
What should I check before buying gold in China?
Check the weight, purity, workmanship fee and total price, compare reputable sellers, and keep the receipt and any certificate provided.
Pricing methodology
Gold Updates takes one XAU spot quote in USD, converts it at the current market exchange rate for CNY, then derives grams (ounce / 31.1034768), kilograms (grams x 1000) and tolas (grams x 11.6638038). Purity multiplies by karat / 24, applied once. Full details: Data Sources & Methodology.
