How the calculation works

Past value = weight in grams × (past COMEX futures close per ounce ÷ 31.1034768) × (karat ÷ 24) × exchange rate. The purity factor is applied exactly once.
Current value uses the same weight and purity at the live XAU spot price shown above.
Change = current value − past value; percentage change = change ÷ past value × 100.
Worked example (assumed closes, not live): 1 troy ounce of pure gold, past close $2,000/oz, current price $4,000/oz: past value $2,000.00, current value $4,000.00, change +$2,000.00 (+100%).

Basis: past prices are COMEX gold futures (GC=F) daily closes — futures closes, not spot history. The closest available close on or before your selected date is used, and both values are converted at today’s exchange rate (historical FX rates are not shown).
