Gold price chart
COMEX gold futures (GC=F) daily closes, in USD. This is futures data, not spot.
How the calculation works
- Melt value = weight in grams × live 24K price per gram × (karat ÷ 24) × exchange rate. The purity factor is applied exactly once.
- Scrap value = melt value × payout ÷ 100. Dealers rarely pay 100% of melt value; the payout percentage is the share of melt value the dealer pays.
- Worked example (assumed price, not live): 10 g of 18K gold at $120.00/g gives melt value 10 × 120 × 18/24 = $900.00; at a 90% payout the scrap value is $810.00.
Please note
Estimate only. Actual dealer offers differ due to testing, refining costs, taxes and margins, and the live price moves constantly.
