How the calculation works

Melt value = weight in grams × live 24K price per gram × (karat ÷ 24) × exchange rate. The purity factor is applied exactly once.
Total coin value = melt value × (1 + premium ÷ 100).
Worked example (assumed price, not live): 10 g of 22K gold at $120.00/g gives melt value 10 × 120 × 22/24 = $1,100.00; with a 5% premium ($55.00) the total is $1,155.00.

Melt value is the value of the gold content only. Collectible, rare or proof coins can trade well above melt value, and actual dealer prices differ due to taxes, premiums and margins.
